چکیده

Aqueous biphasic systems (ABS) can integrate multiple unit operations and operate under continuous mode, contributing to the development of sustainable separation processes. Encouraged by designer solvent features ionic liquids (ILs), we herein propose their use as components double-stimuli-responsive (temperature- pH-driven) ABS. Resorting choline-alkanoate-based ILs pH-responsive poly(propylene glycol) (PPG 400) thermo-responsive component, ABS ternary phase diagrams are determined at various temperature (25–45 °C) pH (3–7) conditions. While liquid–liquid diagram response obeys a lower critical solution temperature-like behavior, correlates with pKa IL anion parent acid. The simultaneous responsiveness is then shown, whose results inspire customizable techniques proved (one-step) two dyes. By proper customization chemical structure stimuli applied, may be designed improve performance sustainability

Salting-out in Aqueous Solutions of Ionic Liquids and K3PO4: Aqueous Biphasic Systems and Salt Precipitation

The salting-out effect produced by the addition of potassium phosphate, K3PO4 to aqueous solutions of water-miscible ionic liquids, viz. 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ethyl sulfate, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium methyl sulfate, or 1-alkyl-3methylimidazolium chloride (alkyl = butyl, octyl or decyl) is investigated. The effects are analyzed using both the corresponding temperature–composition pseudo-...

APPLIED CHEMISTRY Some Novel Liquid Partitioning Systems: Water-Ionic Liquids and Aqueous Biphasic Systems

Partition coefficients, as values of log P, between water and two room-temperature ionic liquids and between water and an aqueous biphasic system have been correlated with Abraham’s solute descriptors to yield linear free energy relationships that can be used to predict further values of log P, to ascertain the solute properties that lead to increased or decreased log P values, and to character...

Thermoreversible (Ionic-Liquid-Based) Aqueous Biphasic Systems.

The ability to induce reversible phase transitions between homogeneous solutions and biphasic liquid-liquid systems, at pre-defined and suitable operating temperatures, is of crucial relevance in the design of separation processes. Ionic-liquid-based aqueous biphasic systems (IL-based ABS) have demonstrated superior performance as alternative extraction platforms, and their thermoreversible beh...

Temperature dependency of aqueous biphasic systems: an alternative approach for exploring the differences between Coulombic-dominated salts and ionic liquids.

Herein we propose an alternative way to distinguish ionic liquids from Coulombic-dominated salts, based not on their upper limit melting temperature (100 °C), but on the trend of their phase-forming abilities to create aqueous biphasic systems as a function of temperature, in which a wider plethora of interactions can be appraised.

Aqueous biphasic systems composed of ionic liquids and acetate-based salts: phase diagrams, densities and viscosities.

Ionic-liquid-based aqueous biphasic systems (IL-based ABS) have been largely investigated as promising extraction and purification routes. In this context, the determination of their phase diagrams and the physical properties of the coexisting phases are of high relevance when envisaging their large-scale applications. Low viscosities improve the mass transfer and reduce energy consumptions, wh...
